FSB - Glimmer of Growth
FSB Business Has Success with Growth in a Downturn
The construction industry is one of the toughest sectors at present, especially in a major recession and the Government projection was a negative growth of -4.4% for 2012. Fortunately no one told FSB members, CES Hire Limited who not only celebrated their 30th Anniversary on 10th January, but grew their revenues by 19% and their profit by 16%. CES Managing Director Nick Rogers attributes its success to - “Listening to our customers, responding to the changing needs and requirements of the industry and leveraging its FSB Membership. We have become the preferred supplier of hire equipment for everyone from sole traders through to multi-national organisations”.
CES Hire Limited has been a member of the FSB since November 2005 and has made good use of the various services available to members from Legal and HR advice, through to Financial and networking capabilities. Debtors days is a major challenge to the SME market and even the Government has thrown its hat in recently ‘declaring war on late payers, promising to name and shame transgressors’. CES utilised the FSB legal services to assist them in expediting payment from bad debtors and also leveraged the HR services to keep themselves up to date and legal with recent employment law changes.
In 2011, CES also brought in local business advisors, ABC (UK) Limited (also Buckinghamshire based), to help them move the company to the next level of performance. Denis Paul, Managing Director said, “It has been a pleasure working with Nick and his team at CES. They have grown in stature and knowledge as we have moved the company to its next level of stable and steady profitable growth. All SME’s should also learn to utilise the important services provided by organisations such as the FSB”
The FSB plays a very important role in providing a vast array of services to help companies from ‘start ups’ through to the more mature organisations like CES. Most SME organisations will not have the ability to run in-house all the various departments and expertise required as the major Corporate Enterprises can. In CES’s case they have no Legal, I.T. or HR department and outsource when appropriate. The lesson here is to leverage and access the vast array of services that the FSB can provide to maximise your chances of being successful.
So with this backdrop of working in one of the toughest industry sectors, it is really inspirational to see an FSB Member pull through, thrive and celebrate their 30th Year. Congratulations to all at CES Hire Limited and every SME organisation throughout the UK from all at the FSB and here’s hoping for a fabulous 2013!
